Giverny, pre-saves, etc
Hi, my love.
I am ecstatic slash amped slash somewhat terrified to report that you can now pre-save/add the (!) first (!) single (!) off (!) this (!) album (!!!!!) if you have Spotify, Apple Music or Deezer. It is free for you and very helpful for me if you do so.
(!!!!!!!)
The single is called “Is It Right?”
It comes out May 20th. I’ll tell you more about it as we get closer to the 20th.
(Ho-Lee-Shit.)
I am also ecstatic to report that, in Giverny, France, they put whipped cream on their cappucinos.
(Oh yeah.)
Been a pretty solid week. At the risk of ttalk being a slightly insufferable travel blog for a second, my updates are as follows:
(Update 1) May or may not have taken my family to the largest tulip garden in the world.
Keukenhof, though it has Disney levels of thronged crowds, is worth every bit of the hype. I have so many photos of the tulips that it’s impossible to pick. Here are two, selected completely at random.
(Update 2) May or may not have also stayed on top of a mountain in a French gîte. In order to get to the entrance of the gîte you had to say hello to a field of very inquisitive cows.
In order to get the town, you had to descend the gîte’s mountain and walk through fields of yellow French countryside flowers.
Vernon was also pretty the frack fabulous. We rented e-bikes, eventually, because hiking up a mountain every time we needed butter or something got a little old.
(Are you aware of e-bikes?!)
(I may NEVER regular bike again)
(Early on in the ttalks a lot of you told me to get an e-bike)
(I am here to hang my head in shame slash shriek to you that you were correct)
E.
Bikes.
FOREVER.
(Update 3) Took my mom to Giverny to see Monet’s Garden for her birthday. I baked mocha cupcakes and saffron buns for the train ride because I was kind of on a mission to make it the best birthday of all time.
And I feel like I kind of succeeded? Monet’s Garden was magnifique for a lot of reasons (she says, aware of how annoying she sounds, but also just! telling! you! the! truth!).
Of course there’s the part where you’re literally just… walking in one of his paintings.
Also of note? His EPIC fully blue kitchen full of copper pots aka the stuff of dreams.
But perhaps my favorite part was that I found the cutest mailbox in history. Which I feel I can say, at this point, as something of a worldwide mailbox expert.
It was all very fun and very chaotic, and now we’re home for a few seconds before heading out to Paris again and then some Germany shows.
In the spaces in between I am having extreme excitement and panic attacks that I’m doing it wrong, somehow. I don’t know how to wrap my head around this single coming out / marketing it / promoting it / making myself into a business again, so, frankly, I’m not. I’m just going to keep typing to you like I have every Sunday for a year and a half, and I’m going to keep telling you the truth.
Because at some point during the pandemic we lost our artifice. And despite the absolute hellscape trauma that pulled every rug from beneath me, I like it better here now.
I like you. And I like us.
I have no intention of reassembling the artifice and losing this connection that I cherish so much. The single is coming soon, my love. As I shift out of the pupal state of creation and closer to the you hearing it (!) phase, I am leaning into every ounce of honesty you’ve taught me to summon. Typing words stream of consciousness and pressing send.
In the end, though, music stays the best way to tell you my truest truths. Can’t wait for you to finally (!) freaking (!) hear some of it.
More next week.
